D. Pharma ( Diploma in Pharmacy )

Diploma in Pharmacy program is diploma certificate course. It is well known by the short names of D.Pharma. This course is 2 years full time diploma course designed to prepare candidates to work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in hospitals, community pharmacies and other related pharmaceutical fields. Typical Duties of Pharmacy Technician - Preparing medication for dispensing and compounding pharmaceuticals, preparing aseptic products, performing inventory control, purchasing, merchandising and record-keeping as required under such acts as the food and drug act.

D. Pharma Course Eligibility

Minimum Qualification for Admission Candidates shall have passed 10+2 examinations conducted by respective State/Centeral Government authorities Recognised as equivalent to 10+2 examinations by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry. Mathematics (PCM) and Biology (PCB) as optional subjects individually. Any other qualification approved by PCI as equivalent to any of above examinations.

Duration of Course

The duration of the course shall be of two academic years with each academic years spread over a period of not less than one hundred and eighty working days. In addition to 500 hundred hours practical training spread over a period of not less than three months.

Objectives

The objectives are covered under three headings namely :

a)

Knowledge and understanding - The students should acquire the following during their two year D. Pharma course.

  • Adequate knowledge and scientific information regarding basic priciples of pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics including cosmetics, pharmacology and pharmacogonsy.
  • Adequate knowledge of practical aspects of Dispensing, formulation types, storage conditions of Drugs, store managements.
  • Adequate knowledge of clinical symptoms, patient counseling and patient safety leading to physical and social well being of patient, common side effects. drug interactions etc.
  • Adequate knowledge of regulatory aspects of Drugs (OTC Drugs, Prescription drugs, banned drugs etc.)
b)

Skills- A Diploma qualified person should be able to demonstrate the following skills necessary for practice of a pharmacy.

  • Able to formulate (simple formulation like ointment) store, dispense, analyze and read doctors prescriptions.
  • Able to learn and apply the quality assurance principles (specially in relation to store conditions) including legal and ethical aspects involving drugs.
  • Able to communicate with the patients with confidence.
c)

Attitude - the Diploma qualified person should develop the flowing attitude during their D.Pharma Course

  • Willing to apply the current knowledge of pharmacy in the best interest of patient and the community.
  • Maintain high standard of professional ethics in discharging professional obligations.
  • Continuously upgrade professional information and be conversant with latest advances in pharmacy field to serve the community better.
  • To help and participate in implementation of national health programs.

Learning Outcomes

  • The qualified person at the end of their program will be expected to face community practice (community, Hospital and private outlet) and interact with regulatory authorities.
  • The qualified person should be able to demonstrate their skill and abilities in the Labs if appointed as lab technicians in teaching institutions. They should apply the acquired knowledge into action providing preliminary solutions.   • The qualified person should understand the importance of patient counselling and therefore should have minimum knowledge of common side effects of drugs and drug food interaction.
  • Be able to maintain drug store(in Hospitals/Private Outlets) and classify drug properly, Must apply his knowledge in storage and maintaining drugs as per requirement.
